Books That Emotionally Damaged Me vs Books That Emotionally Repaired Me

Being a reader is basically signing up for emotional instability… voluntarily. Some books hold you gently, fix your broken pieces, and restore your faith in love. Others? They walk in, ruin your emotional balance, and leave you staring at a wall at 2 a.m. (rude behaviour, honestly). And yes, I loved both types because apparently I enjoy chaos.

As much as the “emotionally damaged” books hurt, they make stories unforgettable. They dig deep, explore vulnerability, and make love feel hard-earned and meaningful. But the “emotionally repaired” ones? They remind me why I believe in romance. They’re warm, reassuring, and feel like emotional comfort food after a long day.

So yes, my reading life is dramatic. One book breaks me, the next one fixes me, and I willingly repeat the cycle every month (no lessons learned). And honestly? I wouldn’t have it any other way.
