Wild Side by Elsie Silver feels like a warm hug but wrapped in tension and slow-burn romance.
Set in a small town that feels lived-in and intimate, this story leans into one of my favourite romance setups: a marriage of convenience. Add forced proximity, enemies to lovers, and that unmistakable small-town charm, and youโve got a romance thatโs easy to sink into.
What I loved most about Wild Side is how naturally the relationship evolves. The banter starts sharp, the walls are high, and the resistance feels real. Reading that emotional shift, from irritation to understanding to love is incredibly satisfying.
Elsie Silver does small-town romance really well. The setting isnโt just a backdrop; it adds warmth and depth to the story. The side characters, the sense of community, and the quieter moments all balance out the romance beautifully. The forced proximity trope works especially well here, creating moments that feel intimate rather than rushed.
And the main characters, Tabitha and Rhys, are pure love. Tabitha (FMC) comes across as strong yet emotionally guarded, someone whoโs learned to rely on herself even when things get messy. Rhys (MMC) carries that quiet, broody small-town energy, with layers of responsibility and restraint simmering just beneath the surface. Their dynamic starts off sharp and defensive (hello, enemies-to-lovers), but slowly shifts as forced proximity does its magic. I loved how their relationship develops through subtle moments rather than grand gestures, the shared silences, small acts of care, and reluctant honesty. Watching Tabitha and Rhys lower their walls, inch by inch, made their eventual emotional connection feel earned and deeply satisfying.
This book landed at a solid 4 stars for me. If you enjoy romance novels that focus on emotional connection, slow-burn tension, and believable chemistry, this one is absolutely worth picking up.
