Book Review: Tryst with Reality by Vishal Bhavsar

There are very few non-fiction books that truly manage to hold my attention from the very beginning, and Tryst with Reality by Vishal Bhavsar was exactly that kind of read.

This book is much more than a travel memoir. The book beautifully captures how a completely last-minute and unplanned trip to the Himalayas turned into one of the most defining experiences of the authorโ€™s life. It is a deeply reflective journey through the Himalayas, where travel meets self-discovery, spirituality, and life lessons. As the author takes us through places like Haridwar, Rishikesh, Devprayag, Gangotri, and Bhojbasa, every page feels immersive and beautifully layered with emotion.

Vishal Bhavsarโ€™s writing is simple yet deeply evocative. His words paint the mountains, the roads, and the moments so vividly that you almost feel like you are travelling alongside him. The spiritual undertones and the reflections on life make this book more than just a travel read like it becomes an experience in itself. In the book, throughout the journey, the author experiences so many unplanned moments like unexpected stays, chance encounters with spiritual places and people, moments of struggle, and deeply peaceful experiences that seem divinely timed. His experiences with spirituality are especially moving.

And how can I not mention the photographs! The photographs captured by the author and printed throughout the book add such a beautiful personal touch to the reading experience. They make the journey feel more personal and immersive, like one can actually see them through the authorโ€™s eyes.

What made this book even more special for me was my personal connection to it.

Being from Uttarakhand myself, and having visited many of the places mentioned in the book, it was incredibly moving to see how beautifully the author described and captured his experiences. Reading about these places through someone elseโ€™s eyes brought back so many memories for me like the landscapes, the calmness, the spiritual energy, and the emotions attached to those journeys.

There is something truly magical about revisiting familiar places through another personโ€™s perspective. It not only brings back memories but also allows you to see them in a new light, and this book does exactly that.

Iโ€™m grateful to the author for sending this book my way. This was a beautiful and memorable read, one that stayed with me long after I turned the last page.

For anyone who loves non-fiction, travel memoirs, spiritual journeys, or books that make you pause and reflect, this is definitely one to add to your reading list.

A 4 out of 5 stars for me!
