After a very long time, I finally read a book that earned a full 5 stars from me. And honestly? I can’t believe it took me this long to discover Seeking Persephone by Sarah M. Eden.
I actually stumbled upon this book after watching the trailer for the series based on it, and that little glimpse was enough to make me curious. I’m so glad I decided to pick it up because it completely exceeded my expectations.
From the very first few chapters, I kept getting Pride and Prejudice vibes. Not because the stories are identical, but because of the atmosphere, the slow-building romance, the quiet emotions, and the way the relationship develops through conversations and understanding rather than grand gestures. It has that same comforting charm that makes you want to keep turning the pages.
Persephone is such a wonderful heroine. She’s gentle, intelligent, and quietly resilient. She doesn’t try to be the loudest person in the room, yet she leaves the biggest impression. Adam, the Duke of Kielder, is exactly the kind of hero I enjoy reading about. Reserved, misunderstood, and carrying the weight of his title, he slowly reveals a thoughtful and caring side that completely stole my heart.
The chemistry between Adam and Persephone is a slow burn, and I loved every minute of it. Watching them go from strangers to genuinely understanding and trusting each other felt so natural. Every little interaction, every conversation, and every quiet moment added something meaningful to their relationship.
The side characters deserve a special mention too. Harry, Adam’s friend, was such a breath of fresh air. He brought warmth and humour whenever he appeared, and I found myself looking forward to his scenes.
And then there’s the setting. The Duke’s castle almost feels like a character in itself. Sarah M. Eden describes it so beautifully that I could picture every room, garden and the surrounding countryside. It gave the story such a cosy, timeless feel and made me want to step right into that world.
What I loved most about this book is that it doesn’t rely on unnecessary drama or over-the-top twists. Instead, it’s built on character growth, trust, kindness, and a romance that unfolds at exactly the right pace. It’s the kind of story that quietly captures your heart without you even realizing it.
This was one of those books that left me smiling long after I turned the final page. Sweet, heartfelt, beautifully written, and completely comforting, Seeking Persephone has easily become one of my favourite historical romances. Oh, and I finished reading it in one sitting!
