If Pride and Prejudice by Jane Austen left you completely smitten like me, you’re probably searching for another story with lingering glances, witty banter, unforgettable slow-burn romance, and a hero who falls just as hard as Mr. Darcy did.
While nothing can truly replace Elizabeth Bennet and Mr. Darcy, these films and series come close. Whether it’s the setting, the emotional tension, or the satisfying romance, each of these captures a little of the magic that makes Pride and Prejudice so timeless.
1. Pride & Prejudice (2005)
If you’ve only read the novel, this adaptation should be your first stop. Keira Knightley and Matthew Macfadyen bring Elizabeth and Darcy’s story to life beautifully, with breathtaking cinematography and all the quiet longing that readers adore. It’s one of those films you can watch over and over again.
2. Seeking Persephone (2026)
If I had to recommend one newer series for Pride and Prejudice fans, this would be it. Based on Sarah M. Eden’s bestselling novel, Seeking Persephone follows Persephone Lancaster and the brooding Duke of Kielder in a marriage-of-convenience romance that slowly blossoms into something beautiful. With grand estates, a reserved duke, heartfelt emotional growth, and charming side characters (Harry deserves a mention!), it gave me many of the same feelings I had while reading Austen.
3. North & South (2004)
Ask any Pride and Prejudice fan for recommendations, and North & South is almost guaranteed to come up. Based on Elizabeth Gaskell’s novel, this BBC miniseries delivers everything Pride and Prejudice fans adore. John Thornton has often been compared to Mr. Darcy, and it’s easy to see why. The romance unfolds slowly, the chemistry is undeniable, and the emotional payoff is worth every minute.
4. Sense and Sensibility (1995)
Another Jane Austen masterpiece, this adaptation is filled with warmth, wit, and deeply emotional storytelling. It explores love, family, and resilience while delivering the elegant romance Austen fans never seem to tire of. Oh and wonderful performances by Emma Thompson, Kate Winslet, Hugh Grant, and Alan Rickman.
5. Bridgerton (2020 – )
If you’re looking for something with Regency aesthetics but a modern twist, Bridgerton is an easy recommendation. It’s much steamier than Austen, but it shares many of the same elements like ballrooms, societal expectations, clever banter, and romances that keep you invested from beginning to end. My personal favourite is the second season featuring Jonathan Bailey and Simone Ashley.
If you’re missing Elizabeth and Darcy and want to recreate that feeling, these five adaptations are a wonderful place to start. They each offer a different take on period romance while delivering the charm, longing, and emotional depth that make stories like Pride and Prejudice impossible to forget.
