Book Review: Hard Evidence by Pamela Clare

Hard Evidence by Pamela Clare is the second book in the I-Team series, and while the books can be read as standalones, I would still recommend starting from the beginning.

But let me just say this first, this is my favourite book in the entire series. And I cannot even tell you how many times I have reread this book. Some books you read once and move on. And then there are books like Hard Evidence that you keep coming back to because you already know exactly what you’re going to get.

This is a romantic suspense, so obviously there is plenty of mystery, danger and action, but let’s be honest… I am here for the leads.

Our FMC, Tessa Novak, is an investigative reporter, and I absolutely love her. She is strong, independent, smart and determined. She is not the kind of heroine who sits around waiting for someone else to solve her problems. Tessa knows what she is doing, and even when things get dangerous, she keeps pushing forward.

And then comes our MMC, Julian Darcangelo. Oh. My. God. Julian Darcangelo, the man you are. He is an undercover FBI agent working with the Denver Police, and he is pretty much everything I look for in a hero. He is strong, protective, capable, intense and has that whole “I will keep you safe even if you don’t want me to” energy. And yes, I am absolutely here for it.

But what really makes this book for me is Tessa and Julian together. Their chemistry is hot. There is attraction from the beginning, but it’s not just physical chemistry. I loved watching the relationship develop while they were dealing with everything happening around them. They challenge each other, they work together, and there is this constant tension between them that had me completely invested.

And then we have the suspense element, which is another reason this book works so well. There is a mystery involving drugs, danger and some seriously bad people, and the investigative side of the story keeps the plot moving. Pamela Clare does a great job of balancing the suspense with the romance, so neither side feels like it’s taking over the book.

I also love how Tessa being an investigative reporter and Julian being an undercover FBI agent naturally brings them into the middle of the action. They both have their own strengths, and neither one feels like a side character in the other’s story.

Hard Evidence has everything I want from a romantic suspense like a strong heroine, an intense and protective hero, scorching chemistry, mystery, danger, action and a romance that keeps you hooked. I’ve read this book more times than I can count, and every time I go back to it, I enjoy it just as much.
