I genuinely don’t know why I didn’t pick up Sweet Talk by Julie Garwood earlier. Because this book is so good. Like, where has this been all my life? This was such a fun, engaging read, and I ended up loving it way more than I expected.
For me, this is a solid 4.5 out of 5 stars.
It’s an FBI romance (which already had me interested), and of course, we get an alpha MMC, Grayson Kincaid, who completely delivers. Paired with him is Olivia McKenzie, our FMC, who works in the IRS and finds herself tangled in something much bigger than she initially expected.
Let’s talk about Grayson first, because…(IYKYK). I loved his character. He’s protective, patient, and quietly intense in a way that just works. What I really liked is how he knew early on that Olivia was it for him, before she could even process her own feelings. And instead of rushing her, he gives her space while still being there for her in every way that matters. That balance of patience and protectiveness? Chef’s kiss.
And then we have Olivia. She’s interesting because she’s a bit of a contradiction, in a good way. She tends to expect the worst, yet in certain situations, she surprises you by holding onto hope. It makes her feel real, not perfect, and definitely relatable. She’s strong, intelligent, and trying to navigate a very complicated situation involving her estranged family, especially when she is trying to uncover a Ponzi scheme connected to her father.
The romance between Grayson and Olivia is honestly so good. Their chemistry feels natural, their interactions are easy yet meaningful, and I really enjoyed watching their relationship grow. Do I wish there were more romantic moments? Yes. But even then, what we do get is satisfying and well-built.
Another thing I loved was the little touch of family dynamics. Grayson taking care of his 9-year-old nephew, Henry, adds such a soft layer to his character. It shows a completely different side of him, one that’s warm, responsible, and deeply rooted in family. And those moments? Absolutely heart-melting.
The story itself blends romance with suspense really well. Olivia’s investigation into the financial crime adds tension and keeps the plot moving, while the romance keeps you emotionally invested. It’s that perfect mix of intrigue and swoon-worthy moments.
Overall, Sweet Talk is such an enjoyable read with great characters, engaging plot, and a romance that feels both strong and believable. I had a really good time reading it, and I definitely see myself picking up more books by Julie Garwood.
