Usually, I tend to reach for romance books, so picking up A Solo Act by sun:jeev was a little different from my usual reading pattern. Thank you, sun:jeev, for sending me this book. It’s not something I would have normally picked up on my own, and I’m glad I got the chance to read it.
One of the first things that stands out about the book is its format. It is written like a theatre play, which made it feel quite different from a regular novel. The story follows John through different stages of his life, like as a husband, as a father, as an older man and so on. Through this, it explores how life keeps changing us, shaping us, and at times, confronting us with emotions we may not always be ready for.
This book is more reflective than dramatic, and that works for the kind of story it wants to tell. There are so many emotions running through the book like loneliness, love, fear, regret, acceptance, and I liked how it makes you pause and think, not just about John’s life, but about your own too. It makes you wonder what life will look like years from now, and how the choices we make quietly build that future.
What I appreciated most is how the book touches on the complexity of being human. The relationships, responsibilities, ageing, memories, emotional baggage, all of it is woven into John’s journey. A Solo Act feels like a reminder that life, in many ways, is something we all have to live through on our own. It is indeed “A Solo Act”.
