Historical romance has slowly become one of my favourite romance subgenres. There’s something magical about stepping into a completely different era with the grand estates, Scottish Highlands, dukes, knights, arranged marriages, and romances that unfold one meaningful conversation at a time. When done well, historical romance feels timeless, and the love stories stay with you long after you’ve finished reading.
If you’re just getting into historical romance, these are some of my favourites. They have unforgettable characters and romance that make every page worth turning.

A delightful historical romance featuring memorable characters, humour, and a romance that develops naturally. It’s charming, entertaining, and perfect if you’re looking for a lighter historical read.
Born in Sin by Kinley MacGregor
A beautifully emotional medieval romance featuring one of the most misunderstood heroes you’ll come across. It’s a story of healing, acceptance, and finding love despite a painful past.
The Lion’s Lady by Julie Garwood

One of the reasons I keep coming back to historical romance is that it offers such a wonderful escape. Whether it’s the sweeping estates of England or the rugged beauty of the Scottish Highlands, these stories transport you to another time while delivering romances that feel just as relatable today.
If you enjoy slow-burn relationships, unforgettable heroes, independent heroines, emotional storytelling, and happily-ever-afters that truly feel earned, every book on this list deserves a place on your TBR.
